Dongwha Duty Free is a duty free shop in Gwanghwamun Building, Jongno-gu, Seoul that first opened as Dongwha Arcade in 1973 when it first opened. The Arcade acquired a permit and opened Korea’s first duty free shop in the city. The basement level is dedicated to brand goods while the first floor offers imported products. The second floor sells apparel, accessories, and souvenirs while the third floor has perfumes and more Korean souvenirs. You will find international fashion labels, Korean brands, and quality souvenirs in Dongwha Duty Free. When the Korean Wave hit China and Southeast Asia more and more tourists started visiting Korea. Dongwha opened a separate section specifically for these tourists in 2002. This marketing strategy was a great success, raking in over a hundred million won in annual sales in 2005. By 2010, Dongwha was making 172 million in annual sales, making an outstanding contribution to tourism in Korea. Dongwha Duty Free is close to Gwanghwamun Station and City Hall Station. It is easily approachable by bus. All Seoul City Tour Buses take off from Dongwha as it is at the center of tourist attractions scattered about Seoul. The duty free shop is easy to find, even for foreign tourists. The shop is open from 09:30 to 20:30 and is open all days of the year.
