The former name of Deoksugung Palace was Gyeongunggung, and it has been called Deoksugung since 1907.

Covering an area of 61,500㎡, the palace currently retains structures including Daehanmun, Junghwamun, Gwangmyeongmun, Junghwajeon, Junmyeongdang, Seokeodan, Seokjojeon, Hamnyeongjeon, and Jeukjodang.

Every day in front of Daehanmun Gate at Deoksugung, the Royal Guard-Changing Ceremony is reenacted. Visitors stop in their tracks to watch the rituals of the past.

With Western-style buildings and traditional structures built side by side — a sight rarely seen at other palaces — it is beloved by many tourists for its uniquely distinctive atmosphere.

After finishing your visit to Deoksugung, take a stroll along the Deoksugung Stonewall Road, famous as a romantic walking street.
